Let go and let God. How often do we hear or see these words? A better question might be how often do we act on these words? Not often enough I think. Why is it so difficult to truly let go of things? Why can we not seem to hand things over to God without trying to take them back again? I don’t know about you, but for me it’s usually about not having control. I suspect in large part due to the many hardships that I experienced as a child when I had no control. Not that I did much better once I had it. But then again, did I ever really have control in the first place? Or has it always just been the illusion of control. And why is it that we think we need to have it? I suspect because we are vulnerable when we feel like we are not in control. I would compare it much like a description I recently read in a book. It is like riding in a car with your teenager who is just learning to drive. In a normal car we really do not have any control, so we often are stressed to the max, holding our breath and mashing the invisible brake on the passenger side. But have you ever seen those drivers Ed cars that have controls on both sides? At any time the passenger can take control. So picture this, you are in the driver seat of this special car and God is in the passenger seat, you are driving down a road you’ve never been on before and suddenly you don’t know what to do. Well in a normal car without God you are stuck figuring it out all on your own. But, you are in a relationship with God and he has a set of controls right in front of him. All you have to do is let go and let God! I know firsthand just how scary giving up control can be, but rest assured that God will never steer you in the wrong direction. Not knowing the path He has laid out before us can be very scary, but God desires
greatness for all of us, and he is happy to show us the way if we can simply give up control.
