Church, What is it? and why do we go or not go?

Updated: Oct 2, 2019

For may of us Church is a place to be surrounded by what we consider to be like minded people and take a break from the craziness of the outside world. For others it's a breath of fresh air after a long rough week. And for some it's just the place they go on Sunday or Saturday because that's how they grew up and that's just the way it's always been. Well lets take a look at the concept of Church for just a minute. First lets ask, who's church is it? Is it man's Church or God's Church? If the answer to that is anything other than God's Church, you have a bigger problem than just why you do or don't attend Church. The Christian Church was created and built by God through his Son Jesus Christ And through the sacrifice on the Cross, God opened the doors to His Church to us all, no matter what our background, color, creed, or mistakes. The Church is a place for all to grow, learn, and build a relationship with Him! Some people don't go simply because they think they need to get their life right before they can go. I often wonder if God ever laughs at us and our odd logic, because Church isn't the place to go after you get your life right, it's the place you go to help you get there. Some people don't go because they feel judged by others in the Church. I wonder how many times was Jesus judged by others who claimed to be people of God, but it never once slowed him down. God knows what is in your heart just the same as the hearts of those who judge you, and at the end of the day, it's your relationship with God or lack of that is important. It is like us with our children, sometimes they drift away from us but no matter what choices or mistakes they make in life we never stop loving them. Some people disagree about what day of the week Church should be on. As if there is only one specific day of the week to worship God on. All throughout the bible we see instance after instance where Christ was more concerned about what was in the heart of people rather than if they followed the letter of the law with perfection. Think again your own parents or children, would you rather they only communicate with you on a single day each week or would you rather have unrestricted access and communication with them all the time? Well guess what?! That is what we have with the Father! The day we choose to attend Church is of very little consequence if our heart is not in the right place, and if we are persecuting other children of God for simply attending an organized worship service on what you think is the wrong day, it couldn't be much clearer that you have bigger problems. When you think of Church what do you imagine? A pretty white or brick building, with Crosses and pew's, and maybe some classrooms. Think about this for just a moment, if all the Church buildings in the world suddenly were destroyed? What then? No more Church? Of course not, because CHURCH is not a building! Now lets think back, I said it is God's Church right?, so if it's not a building then what could it possible be? Well, take a look in the mirror, it's you, and me, and all of God's children.
