More recently than ever before I am hearing and seeing this term in a negative way, to express one's distain for what they consider Hippocrates in the Church.
It however makes me wonder when you feel this way, how many of these people do you actually know out of the vast number of Jesus followers? I do not write this without personal experience, as I too have been burned in my life by such people. However, I have also been burned by many other types of people and I do not hold all of those specific groups accountable for the actions of a few. Why do we feel the need to do that?
We use the poor judgment or bad behavior of a few so called church people as an excuse to label all of them as bad people. Thus giving us an excuse to make poor decisions and use bad behavior. The reality is it doesn't matter to Jesus how you feel about how other people behave. Jesus cares about how you behave. And if you're condemning an entire culture for the actions of just a few, then how are you any different from those hypocrites? Guess what you're not! You end up treating other people exactly the same as you claim to have been treated. But you might say, well I'm justified because of how I was treated first. Even IF that were true, all Church people didn't treat you wrong, so why must everyone pay for crimes they didn't commit? Would you want to pay for a crime your neighbor committed simply because you share a belief? I think not! And no one should.
Do you even know what Church people are?
There's no cookie cutter description that we all fit into. Some of us have grown up in the Church all of our lives, some of us didn't come to the Church until adulthood, and some of us don't make it until old age.
We are men, women, and children. We are short, tall, thin, and thick. We have tattoos, piercings, and some none at all. We have scars and stories like you wouldn't believe. We are broken, bruised, and sometimes just beat down. Sometimes we let our emotions get the better of us because we are but human. BUT we are above all else Children of Christ, and we need Him and His Church, not because we are righteous or perfect. Rather because we are all of these broken imperfect people that only He can fix.
Jesus said Church should look more like a Hospital, and perfect people don't need a hospital.
